Dr. Abdelaziz karamalla Gaiballa graduated from University of Khartoum and received Ph.D. in Rangelands and Pastoralism in 1997 and currently he is a Professor at Sudan University of Science and Technology Sudan. Over the years he held senior positions including Head of the Department of Rangelands at Sudan University of Science and Technology, Dean of the College of Forestry and Rangelands, Dean of the Institute of Family and Community Development. He has supervised numerous PhDs and MSc students mainly on research topics related to natural resources, rangelands and pastoralism. He has published scientific research papers on pastoralism and rangelands management. In 2012 he took a position of senior research coordinator for a project of studying pastoralism and impact of invasive species in the Red Sea coast in eastern Sudan within a joint research program between Sudan University of Science and Technology and the Institute for Humanity and Nature- Japan. Also involved as a reviewer for a number of regional assignments included reviewing the training compendium for short courses on Natural resources forests and climate change adaptation produced by the African Forest Forum (AFF) in 2021, and for IGAD Camel Environment Strategy–– Kenya Naivasha-2021. He was a visiting senior researcher on rangelands natural resources and rural livelihood at the institute of Humanity and Nature Kyoto – Japan (2012). Worked as regional expert for the project of Building Knowledge to Support Climate Change Adaptation for Pastoralists’ Communities in East Africa Centre for Climate Change Studies (CCCS) at the University of Dar es Salaam, with support from Open Society Initiative for Eastern Africa (OSIEA). In addition to his position as a professor of rangelands and pastoralism he is currently leader of the Pastoralism and policy training team providing packages of training based on the manual developed by International Institute of Environment and Development IIED and Feinstein international Center. Awarded a fellowship from the Feinstein International Centre – USA – Tuft University upon applied contribution on Rangelands Resources Management, pastoralism and rural development in 2018 and renewed in 2020
